The first volume of my collection of essays entitled Theological Musings: Collected Essays of a Tattooed Theologian comes out in August from https://quoir.com/. The collection covers a variety of topics from public theology to racism and anti-LGBTQIA bigotry. Early reviews are in and I’m quite humbled by what is being said.
This remarkable many-faceted volume is a model of the integration of personal experience, theological reflection, and systemic political/cultural analysis. With admirable candor Dillon Cruz reveals the painful challenges he has faced in his life and explores the ways that these experiences have generated novel and life-shaping theological insights. He then applies these theological themes to such pressing contemporary issues as the ecological crisis, racism, religious nationalism, genderism, and militarism. This is an exemplary exercise in theology as it should be done: existential, passionate, historically informed, and socially engaged. – Dr. Lee C. Barrett, Mary B. and Henry P. Stager Chair in Theology, Professor of Systematic Theology at Lancaster Theological Seminary
Often, the word “deconstruction” is thrown around to indicate any change that moves a person from White Evangelical Christianity. Unfortunately, this language encourages the idea that one is removing theological perspectives and not their continued process of learning their connection with the Divine, those around them, and the world they inhabit. In this collection of essays, Dillon Cruz shows his own process of learning his way out of the White Evangelical culture that has influenced many aspects of our society. Those of us who have followed a similar path will find this encouraging and push us to further explore the interconnected nature of oppression and religious influence in our world. –Kalie May Hargrove, MDiv, Center for Prophetic Imagination
